43 Saf'ra awoke and moaned in pain. Her injuries had been closed by the magic of the potions, but her mind remembered. She lay on the High Inquisitor's bed, having been carried there by Ska'di in order for her to have a comfortable place to recover. Elira sat with her, a pot of tea prepared for when she awakened fully. “Relax,” said the courtesan, smoothing her furrowed brow. Gentle hands moved the blankets to warm her better as she spoke. “You are safe now. We are here.” Saf'ra looked up in a panic into the smiling eyes of Elira. A moment later, her body relaxed and she lay back, but she kept looking about. “He is dead,” Ska'di told her. “You are safe.
